desserts :)

Last night was my host dad's birthday (prime opportunity to finally find out what his name is...Didiers), so they had a few family friends over to the house. The dessert "birthday cake" was AWESOME! There was one lemon meringue tart and another strawberry cream tart from a local patisserie -- naturally I had a slice of both. After a few glasses of champagne and good conversation, stella and I decided to go out for the salsa dancing. The columbian girls REALLY wanted to join, as this is their forté, but they needed to go to bed because they got up early this morning to travel to Monte Carlo for the weekend.

Stella and I met up with the rest of my UGA group, as well as other exchange students living with them. We went to a salsa bar (I can never remember the name of it, so I just called it Cubanitos - that may or may not be right). It was a great night! My friend from UGA named Lydia is from Puerto Rico, so she knew all the "moves" and tried to teach us. I looked like a fool I'm sure.

Class went well today, although the classrooms are SO hot, so it makes it that much more difficult to fight off sleepiness! I had a presentation due today in my second class - so naturally, I chose to do it on desserts :)

Did you know that a shop cannot be called a "patisserie" here unless it has a licensed "maitre patissier" - pastry chef - who has gone through intense training, passed several examinations, and completed an apprenticeship?!.....no wonder the pastries here are so good!

I brought in chocolate noisettes for my class....my version of sucking up to the teacher. She that immediately won her decision for favorite project. I ate my noisette victoriously :)

I am about to return home for dinner tonight. There is a group of people going out, but I am not sure yet if I will join, considering our big plans for tomorrow!

We have to be at the train stash at 830 to go to Carcassonne, which I previously mentioned is the oldest medieval city in France. We will be there allllll day. Once we get back, Lydia is having a cookout at her host family's house! She has another student staying there from Romania I thin it is - that could be completely wrong, but its some random country - and all his classmates are coming as well! We all signed up to bring different dishes, and I am bringing....desserts :)

arent u supposed to lose the FRESHMAN 29 the summer after you gain it? ...not looking too promising for me. I'm not like scott -- im not "hesitant to try new foods"
